BURLINGTON -- The family of a North Carolina man killed last month says a miracle image is helping them heal. Kevette Jones, 22, was killed in a shooting outside his Burlington home last month. His family says days later they found his face watching over them.
Lydia Jones says her son Kevette was a miracle baby.
"I went to Chapel Hill for years to the fertility clinic and they said I couldn't have a child," said Jones.
On the evening of Oct. 23, the 22-year-old was sitting on his front steps with friends, when his girlfriend, Savanna Matias, says two men showed up at the home. She says a conversation over a friend escalated to shots fired.
"They took my baby and see they gotta deal with that because that's the law of this land, but in the spirit realm, I have to forgive them. Cause I want to see heaven," said Jones.
The family has found some comfort on the street ouside their home and they're calling it an act of God. They say they see the image of Jones looking down on them from a power transformer on a utility pole. Savanna was the first to spot it.
"I was just sitting right here and you look up and you saw it and it looks just like him--his dreads, his eyes and his nose and his mouth," she said.
"That's my baby watching over me," said Jones. "It's gotta be something that God wants us to understand."
The family explains the image is best seen at night and it's giving them hope in the wake of the horror.
"One of his friends said that he prayed and asked God to show him a sign that Kevette was alright and once Savanna showed him that figure, he said he felt better," said Jones. "God gave us a miracle."
Police arrested two Durham men in connection to the shootings. Marquis Spence, 22, and Brandon Malone, 22, are charged with first-degree murder.
