As you most likely know, there are numerous diets which people use in order to lose weight. Many of these diets fade away quickly, but there are some which manage to remain on everyone?s lips for long periods of time. The South Beach diet belongs to the latter category. The South Beach diet is one of the most popular diets in the world, very similar to the famous Atkins diet. They are very similar, but they have certain differences.

The South Beach diet, just like Atkins, was created by a doctor, and both of them are bestselling diet books. The principle of both of the diets is the same: restrict the bad carbohydrates as much as possible, while consuming the good ones. For the first two weeks of the diet, fruits, carrots, pasta, rice, bread, cereal, potatoes, and other types of carbohydrates are not allowed. After those two weeks, the consumption of carbohydrates should be limited. The South Beach diet unlike the Atkins diet, bans the consumption of unhealthy fats, and encourages the consumption of healthy fats.

The South Beach diet does not calculate the consumption of carbohydrates per grams. Instead, it calculates the sugars from the carbohydrates, the ones with low levels of sugars being considered good, and the ones with high levels being considered bad. The South Beach diet will not make you hungry, because it promotes snaking. It does not involve calorie counting, but it promotes eating normal portions. These normal portions should be big enough to satisfy hunger, and that?s why many people consider them too small, when they first start the diet. Rice, potatoes, and other carbs high in sugar are not allowed. Desserts as you probably have imagined are banned as well.

Does the South Beach Diet Work?

The South Beach diet has 3 phases. During the first one, which lasts for 14 days, fruits, potatoes, bread, rice, pasta, and baked goods are banned. You can ear yogurt, low fat milk during these two weeks. After this phase, carbs are gradually reintroduced in the diet. Certain vegetables and fruits are allowed. You can eat some fruits and carbs, but do not eat too much of them. This stage lasts until you reach the weight you desire. The third and last phase of the diet should be for life. You can eat certain foods, but you need to follow certain guidelines.

The South Beach diet should help people who consume too many carbs. In the majority of the cases, the carbs are highly processed, and as a result, they are digested too fast. According to the experts, this diet is safe and recommended, as it involves a healthy diet, which contains fruits, vegetables, proteins, and so on. You should keep in mind that during the first stage, most of the weight loss will come from water loss. After the first stage, the weight loss might slow down, but even so, the overall health and fitness level will be improved.
